New features coming to Google Docs on Android
Google is planning to update the Google Docs app on Android to include some features that are already available on their web version, making the mobile experience more similar to what users enjoy on a computer.
One of the new features we’ve spotted in the latest version, 1.25.062.00.90, is the ability to add bookmarks. This function, which has been on the web and iOS versions, lets you mark important parts of your document. To use it, you just highlight the text you want to bookmark, tap on the plus sign at the top of the screen, and choose the bookmark option. A small bookmark icon will then show up next to your text.
We also found that they’re working on bringing Document tabs to the Android app, just like on the web where you can open multiple documents in tabs. This feature isn’t active yet in the app, but it looks like it will be soon.
Moreover, Google seems to be integrating some smart AI features into the app. There’s a new Gemini icon in the toolbar, similar to what’s in Gmail. When you tap it, you get options to either summarize the whole document or outline its key points. Right now, these options aren’t functional and give an error message, but it’s clear Google is moving towards adding these helpful tools to make document handling easier on Android.
These updates promise to make the Google Docs Android app more robust and user-friendly, aligning more closely with the capabilities of its web counterpart.
