Google might let everyone use Gemini’s cool new features for free
Google made some big updates to Gemini earlier this year, letting the chatbot look at and work with lots of different kinds of files. It can read documents and spreadsheets, make summaries, and even draw charts. Up until now, you needed a special subscription called Gemini Advanced to use this, but it looks like Google might change that.
In the newest test version of the Google app, we’ve found some hints that everyone might soon get to use these features. But, there’s a catch. People without the Gemini Advanced subscription might only get to use it a little bit each day.
You’ll be able to check how much of your daily limit you’ve used, shown as a percentage. If you use it all up, you’ll have to wait a few hours before you can use it again. We’re not sure exactly how much you’ll get to use, but it’s probably going to refresh every day.
This is kind of like what ChatGPT does with its file-checking feature. It’s nice to see Google doing something similar. We just hope Google gives a bigger limit than ChatGPT’s two files a day.
This change could make Gemini a lot more useful for everyone, not just those who pay for the advanced version. It’s exciting to think about all the ways people might use these tools without needing to sign up for a paid plan.
