Discover Gemini’s new look for adding files

Google has recently made it easier for everyone to use Gemini’s file analysis features. Before, you needed a special subscription to use them, but now, all users can upload documents, spreadsheets, and code to get answers, summaries, or even create charts from their data. It looks like Google is also working on a fresh design for how you attach files to Gemini.

In the latest testing version of the Google app (version 16.6.23), we’ve seen a preview of the new file attachment setup. Instead of a small window popping up, this new design uses nearly half of the screen at the bottom. At the top of this new area, there are four buttons: one to snap a photo, another to pick an image from your gallery, a third for selecting any file on your device, and the last one to pull files from Google Drive.

Below these buttons, there are two new choices called “Deep Research” and “Composer.” “Deep Research” connects you directly to a tool that was recently introduced on Android, perfect for diving deep into topics. “Composer,” which appears to be a new feature, is meant to help you write documents and code, according to hints found in the beta version. However, both of these options are currently not active, indicating they might not be ready for everyone just yet.

This new design isn’t available for everyone testing the app yet, and it might take some time before it’s fully rolled out. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about when you can expect these changes to come to your device.
