Google app on iPhone simplifies access to Gemini

Google has decided to streamline how iPhone users access Gemini by removing it from the main Google app. Before, you could switch between Google Search and Gemini right in the Google app, but that’s changing.

For a while, the Google app on iOS included a way to toggle between regular search and Gemini. However, as Google developed more features for Gemini, not all of them made it into the Google app. A prime example is Gemini Live, which you could only use in the standalone Gemini app for iOS, released in November.

Now, Google is directing users to a different path. They’ve informed iPhone and iPad users via email that Gemini is “no longer available” in the Google app. The email explains, “Gemini is now available as its app, and that’s now the best place to use Gemini.” It advises users to “Download the new Gemini app from the App Store” to keep enjoying Gemini’s features.

The standalone Gemini app promises all the features you were used to in the Google app, plus some extras. Google has already started phasing out the switch in the main app, particularly noticeable since they removed the switcher interface earlier this month.

Although you can still find Gemini in the “More” tab of the Google app with version 356.0, there’s a pop-up now that suggests downloading the full Gemini app from the App Store. This move by Google aims to provide a more focused and enriched user experience for Gemini on iOS devices.
