Google Meet now keeps a 30-minute record of live captions
Google Meet has just rolled out updates that make your meetings more productive and easier to follow. One of the new features is a 30-minute history for live captions. Before this update, if you missed something said during a meeting, it was gone with the flow of conversation. Now, however, you can look back at the last half hour of captions at your own pace.
This new caption history is displayed right between the video frames and the control bar at the bottom of the screen. It shows who spoke and what was said or translated, which is handy if you need to catch up on what you missed or review something important. There’s even a quick “Jump to the Bottom” button to get you back to the live conversation when ready.
This feature is especially useful for those times you step away from your desk or when you want to double-check the details discussed earlier. It’s rolling out to all Google Workspace users and those with personal Google accounts over the coming weeks.
In another update, Google Meet’s “Take notes for me” feature, which uses AI from Gemini, has been improved. Now, it doesn’t just jot down key points and email them to you; it also captures and suggests next steps discussed in the meeting. These appear in a special “suggested next steps” section, where you can edit, add follow-ups, or assign tasks to team members. This means no more forgetting what needs to be done after the meeting ends.
This note-taking enhancement is slowly becoming available to users with Google Workspace’s Business Standard plus, Enterprise Standard and, and those with the Gemini Education Premium add-on. These updates are all about making your meetings more effective by ensuring you never miss out on important details or action items.
