Google sneaks a peek at upcoming Gemini Advanced features
Google sent out a “February Newsletter” to its Gemini Advanced subscribers today, sharing what’s in store for those paying $19.99 per month for Google AI Premium. The newsletter kicks off by looking back at the latest experimental model releases:
- Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental: This is the top model for the new age of AI, offering better accuracy and performance, especially with coding and math problems. It’s designed to make even the toughest tasks simpler and more precise.
- Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking: Based on the quick and efficient 2.0 Flash model, this one shows its thinking process live. You can see why it gives certain answers, what it assumes, and how it reasons things out.
The newsletter also mentioned the recent addition of a recall feature to the Gemini app and NotebookLM Premium.
What’s Next for Gemini Advanced?
The email hinted at “more exciting updates” coming soon, describing the subscription as your ticket to Google’s cutting-edge AI. Here’s what was teased:
- New Creative Tools: Look forward to new ways to make things with advanced tools for videos, images, and sounds. Currently, the Gemini app has Imagen 3 for images, updated last month, while Veo 2 is still on a waitlist in Google Labs. Audio tools might include MusicLM or Lyria, suggesting Gemini Advanced could offer quicker access to these or similar features.
- Productivity Boosters: Expect agent tools that do tasks for you, letting you spend your time as you please. Project Mariner, mentioned by CEO Sundar Pichai, is on its way to the Gemini app this year. There might also be new agent features in Google Workspace, like automatically sorting email attachments or analyzing data.
- Advanced AI Upgrades: The newsletter promises bigger and better models to handle more complex projects. Gemini 2.0 Pro is expected to become the standard for Advanced users when it’s stable, and it will be interesting to see how Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking is introduced to the public.
This newsletter not only recaps what’s new but also builds anticipation for what Google has in the pipeline for its premium AI users.
