Google Home camera gets a handy double-tap feature

on

The Google Home app is bringing a simple yet useful update: double-tapping to skip through your camera history. This new feature is rolling out as part of the Public Preview program. Right now, when you double-tap in the camera history view, it only zooms in on the video. To move through a clip, you have to press and drag the scrubber, which can feel slow. With this update, Google is making things easier by adding a 10-second skip option. It’s a small change that makes browsing your camera footage quicker and feels familiar, like how other video players work.

Here’s how it works:

  • Double-tap on the right side of the video to jump forward 10 seconds.
  • Double-tap on the left side to go back 10 seconds.

You should still be able to zoom in or out by pinching the screen, so that feature isn’t going away. This double-tap skip is starting with the Public Preview group, but it’s not showing up yet on the Android or iOS devices we tested today. It’s a basic addition, but it’s the kind of improvement that makes using the app a little smoother and more enjoyable. Once it’s fully available, this update will save time for anyone who checks their camera history often. It’s a smart, user-friendly tweak that shows Google is paying attention to the little details that matter.
