Google Tasks now shows when you finish tasks

Google Tasks has rolled out a handy update on its Android and iOS apps, thanks to its refreshed website. Now, it tells you the exact date you finished a task. When you open the “Completed” section under any list, you’ll spot a new line below each task name. It says “Completed” followed by the day and date you wrapped it up. Looking at the screenshot (on the left), these dates stretch back years. This means Google Tasks has quietly kept track of this info since day one.

This small change makes life easier. It’s great to see when you last tackled something, especially for reminders with no set deadline. It’s a simple way to make Google Tasks feel less like a plain checklist app. Right now, these completion dates show up in the standalone Google Tasks app for Android and iOS (the iOS version still awaits a makeover). However, you won’t see this feature yet in the Google Calendar version on the web or Android.

Meanwhile, Google is trying out another tweak. They’re adding a number next to list names in the app’s top tab switcher, showing how many tasks are still undone. It’s a tall, pill-shaped box that pops up on every list except the one you’re viewing. We’ve only noticed this on one device, and honestly, it’s a little annoying.

It stands out so much that it feels like a warning for overdue tasks. It’d be nice if Google let us turn it off. For now, the app’s settings only let you tweak notifications and themes. This update keeps Google Tasks simple yet useful, helping you stay on top of what you’ve done and what’s left to do.
