Gboard’s handy feature on Pixel phones is going global

Google Pixel phones come packed with smart AI tools, and one cool perk on newer models is a proofreading option in Gboard. So far, it’s only been available in English, but that’s about to change for the better if you’ve been wanting support for other languages.

We peeked into the Private Compute Core app (version 1.0.release.721432993) and spotted some clues in the code. It looks like Gboard’s proofreading tool might soon work in German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, and Korean. Take a look at the screenshot below for proof!

This upgrade would make Gboard’s proofreading a lot more useful, as it’s been limited to English in the US until now. With this change, people in many more countries could enjoy it. Pixel fans should be excited too, since it’s pretty common for new Pixel features to start off only in English or just for US users.

So, how does this proofreading tool work? It uses smart AI to fix mistakes in your spelling, grammar, or punctuation. When Gboard spots an error in something you typed or said, you can just hit the “fix it” button to clean it up. Sure, apps like Grammarly already do this, but having it built right into Gboard could be a lot easier for many folks.
