Google Store says goodbye to Chromecast with Google TV

The Chromecast with Google TV, both the 4K and HD versions, can no longer be bought from the Google Store. As of Thursday afternoon in the US, the Google Store shows “No longer available” on the product pages for these devices. If you visit the Smart Home > Streaming section, you’ll only see the new Google TV Streamer listed. Earlier this week, some colors of the 2020 4K model (priced at $49.99) and the 2022 HD model (priced at $29.99) were still around. These were much cheaper options compared to the new device replacing them.

When Google announced the Google TV Streamer in August, they said the Chromecast would stay on sale until stock ran out. Support and updates for existing Chromecast users won’t change, though we’re still waiting for the Android 14 update to roll out. Google seems to think people don’t want low-cost streaming gadgets anymore. They say even the cheapest TVs now come with streaming built-in. The launch of the new streaming box signals the end of the Chromecast name.

You might still spot Chromecast devices at other stores like Best Buy, where the HD version is on clearance for $14.99—but it’s disappearing fast and isn’t available in physical shops anymore. Supplies at these third-party sellers are also drying up. The Voice Remote made for Chromecast with Google TV isn’t for sale right now either, though there’s a “Get notified” button if it comes back. You can grab the Google TV Streamer Voice Remote instead, but features like “Find My Remote” and the shortcut button only work with the new Streamer.

In short, Chromecast with Google TV is stepping out, making way for Google’s next big thing in streaming.
