Pixel’s battery charge limit issue pops up again in Android 16 Beta 2

Android 16 Beta 2 launched about a week ago, giving users an early look at some cool new features on Pixel devices. These include a handy widget for switching accounts, better camera options, super sharp UltraHDR images in HEIC format support, and a rule making all apps fit edge-to-edge screens.

But, like most early test versions, this beta isn’t perfect—it’s brought some problems along too. We’ve already heard about troubles like PDFs not opening in the Files app and smart home controls failing in the Google Home app. Now, there’s a new glitch in Android 16 Beta 2 that could hurt your phone’s battery life. It’s a repeat of a problem seen before in Android 15 QPR2 Beta 3.

This glitch involves the Pixel’s 80% charge limit feature, which started rolling out last November. It’s a smart tool that stops your phone from charging past 80% when plugged in, keeping the battery healthier for longer by avoiding overcharging. Sadly, in Android 16 Beta 2, this feature isn’t working right.

Not a Planned Reset

Some annoyed users have posted about it on the r/android_beta subreddit. They say this isn’t the usual one-time “recalibration” where the phone charges to 100% on purpose to check its battery capacity. One user, Archer4271, shared, “Even after charging it to 100% and restarting, it still goes over 80%. I’ll try letting it drop below 10% to see if that helps.” Others have noticed the same thing.

This bug seems to hit most Pixel models, with reports coming from owners of the Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 8a, Pixel 6a, and Pixel 7. If you depend on the 80% charge limit to protect your battery, it’s best to skip Android 16 betas for now. If you’re already using this beta, keep an eye on how you charge your phone until a smoother update arrives.
