Pixel Watch 3 approved to detect pulse problems
Google recently shared exciting news: the Pixel Watch 3 has been approved by the FDA for its Loss of Pulse Detection feature. This update will begin reaching devices in the United States by late March. So, what does this feature do? It’s pretty straightforward. If the Pixel Watch 3 notices your pulse stops—maybe because of something serious like a heart attack or an overdose—it will first send you a quick alert.
If you don’t reply, the watch steps in and calls emergency services for you. Back in August, Sandeep Waraich, a top manager for Google’s Pixel wearables, explained to The Verge that the watch is smart enough to tell the difference between a real pulse issue and someone just removing it from their wrist.
This handy tool has already been active in the European Union since September 2024. But when it comes to big-deal health features like this, every country has its own rules and approval process. That means whether it shows up in other places depends on what each local health authority decides.
The Pixel Watch 3 is proving to be more than just a stylish gadget—it’s a little helper that could save lives. With this approval, Google is taking a big step toward making health tech simpler and more useful for everyone. Keep an eye out for this update if you’re in the US—it’s coming soon!
